In ideal weather the 40 th Annual Dublin City Marathon was held on Sunday last with an entry of 22,500 including many from Waterford.The first man home Othmane El Goumri Morrocco broke the course record with a time on 2 hrs 8 minutes and one second and in second place behind him came Shane Scullion Clonliffe Hrs who ran the fastest ever Dublin Marathon by an Irishman 2.12.1 and he took the National title,he became th 5 th fastest Irishman over the distance as well. Aoife Cooke Eagle AC Cork also was in record form as the 8 th place female overall -she took the F 50 award -and ran the fastest Dublin Marathon by an Irishwoman 2 32.34 to take the National women's title and she is now the 5th fastest Irish woman over the distance. P J Scollard Waterford AC was first Waterford man home in 48 th place overall in 2 hrs 32 minutes 24 seconds and Mary Walsh from Waterford who runs with Raheny AC was first Waterford lady home in 3.04.19. Two lady's well known on the road circuit in Waterford Sally Forristal St Joseph's Tullogher who was 30 th lady home clocked 2.55.00 and Adele Walsh St Senan's Kilmacow in 34 th place was timed at 2.55.30
Note; The Irish records for the Marathon are Men; John Treacy 2.09.15 in 1988 and Women Caitriona Mc Kiernan 2.22.33 in 1998.
Munster Schools Event
The Munster Schools Indoor Combined Events Championships were held in Nenagh Stadium on Tuesday October 22 nd and a small number of athletes from Waterford schools competed. Emily O'Mahony St Augustine's College Abbeyside won the senior girls title and Ciarán Buenaventura also St Augustine's was second, again in the Senior Section
Brickey Run on Sunday
Bushy Park GAA grounds is the venue for the 26th Annual Brickey Run sponsored by Murray's Pharmacy Dungarvan which will be held on Sunday next 3rd November. The race will get under way at 11 am with registration taking place from 10.15 onwards in the GAA Clubhouse Bushy Park.
Munster X Country
On Sunday week November 10 th the next Munster Cross Country Championship fixture will be in Conna, East Cork at 11.30 am.Its the boys and girls u 9,11,13,,15,17, 19 and also the under 20 and senior men and women Athletes may move up ONE age group except for the U/9 age group. To compete U/9, the minimum age is EIGHT years (i.e. all athletes must turn 8 years old in 2019, no athlete turning 7 in 2019 may compete and u 19 can enter u 20 also.
