On Sunday next the big Road Race of the season in Ireland the 40 th Annual Dublin City Marathon goes ahead and it incorporates the National Marathon Championships for men and women also. Many from Waterford city and county will be competing joining the thousands from all over Ireland and abroad. The best time by an Irish athlete in the event was by Jerry Kiernan back in 1982 when he clocked 2.13.45 in winning it.
Munster Schools Fixture
The Munster Schools Combined Events Championships will be held on today Tuesday in Nenagh Indoor Stadium starting at 11am. A small entry from Waterford schools will compete.
Good Munster Cross Country Results
Limerick Racecourse last Sunday was the venue for the first Munster Cross Country Championships of the season and athletes from Waterford Clubs did very well including two with individual victories in very heavy conditions.In the under18 race two of our most prominent girls finished first and second. Una O'Brien Waterford AC continued her fine form by taking the title and Lucy Holmes West Waterford was second. At the other end of the age scale another very consistent young girl Isobelle Gaffney West Waterford was first home under 10 while Matteo Mary Waterford again very much in form of late was second in the boys under 18 age group. West Waterford also had a number highly placed athletes in their races, Liam Broderick u 12 and David Gaffney u 14 both were 4th, Sarah Nyhan and Tommy Fennell u16 were both 5th and 6th placings went to Anthony O'Donnell u 10 and Sarah Gaffney u 12. In the inter Club team competitions West Waterford had a very good day. Their u 14 boys won,the under 16 girls were second and there were also four teams who took the bronze medals girls u14 and u 12 and boys u 12 and u 10.Waterford AC were second in the girls u 18 and third in the boys u 18 and u 16. Autumn Open Cross Country
A small number of athletes from Waterford competed in the Annual Autumn Open X Country meeting in Abbotstown on Sunday and David Mc Glynn Waterford ran a very good race at senior level to finish 6th in 23 minutes 22 seconds,Miceál Power West Waterford was 15th,the race was won in 22.55. In the junior ladies race the first Waterford athlete home was Mollie Jean Hutchinson Ferrybank in 8 th place,Anna O'Connor was 9th,Ruth Heery 10 th and Emma Caulfield 14 th all Waterford AC.

Bushy Park GAA grounds is the venue for the 26th Annual Brickey Run sponsored by Murray's Pharmacy Dungarvan which will be held on Sunday week 3rd November at 11 am. On Sunday November 10 th the Annual Sanofi 5 miles in aid of M.S. is on the outskirts of Waterford City on the Old Kilmeaden Road,Its over the same course as previous years.walker's start at 10.30am / runners start at 11.00am.
