In Zurich last Thursday evening in the final 400 metres hurdles in this years Diamond League Series Thomas Barr finished 6 th in his second best time of the year in 49.17 seconds against a World Class field. World Champion Karsten Warholm Norway was first home with a personal and season's best time of 46.92 and Rai Benjamin USA was just behind him in second place in 46.98.again a personal best. Thomas made the final securing the most points of the eight that made it over the series but going into the final the points were wiped out and all started a fresh.Thomas therefore finished 6th overall in the league table behind Warholm and he was pleased with his performance on Thursday , he now gets down to preparing for the World Championships in Doha in late September.
Mc Glynn wins in Ballinameela
180 competed in the 2nd Annual Ballinameela 5 km road race last Friday evening and first home in 15 minutes 30 seconds was David Mc Glynn Waterford ,James Ledingham Kilkenny City Hrs was second in 15.43 and Noel Murphy Waterford was third in 16.05,First lady home was Sally Forristal St Joseph's in 18.19,Madeline Loughnane Thurles was second in 18.32 and Anna O'Connor Waterford was third in 18.39. The category winners were Women; F35 Linda Foley West Waterford, F40 Mary Molloy Ck on Suir , F45 Mairéad Byrne West Waterfod,F 50 Una Ui Mhuirrithe( Ind) Junior Lucy Holmes West Waterford.Men; M40 Kevin Sheehan Watergrasshill, M45 James Whelan West Waterford, M50 Eugene O'Keeffe Ck n Suir, M 55 Ray Hahessy West Waterford Junior Evan Fitzgerald Clonmel. It was the final race of the Intersport Elvery's/Asics Series. The series winners were Raivis Zakis West Waterford and Sally Forristal St Joseph's and West Waterford AC were the organisers.
Joe in Venice for European Masters
The European Masters Championships are in Venice from September 5th to 15 th and Joe Gough West Waterford is Waterford's sole representative on the Irish team and is due to race in the over 65 800 and 1500 metres. His first race will be the heats of the 1500 metres this Thursday with the final on Saturday and 800 metres heats are on Thursday week with the final on the following day. As always it is expected Joe will figure prominently in Venice and we wish him all the best.
