One of the major Athletic events of the year is on Saturday next,the WLRFM Marathon,Half and Qtr Marathon and Relay and it starts at 9 am near City Hall in Waterford. and finishes in WIT Carriganore. Almost 3,000 overall are expected to compete and athletes will take in Rice Bridge and Suir Bridge and a lot of the countryside out near Mt Congreve and full map of courses are on the event Website,and there will be traffic delays and restrictions in some areas and road closures.Lots of Music and hype around the routes and again it promises to be a memorable event,we wish all competing the very best and we welcome all visitors from around the country and from abroad and also thank those involved for months on a major logistical undertaking.All those running are asked to obey the stewards at all areas around the route and the public are asked to support the runners all over the course.

In Oslo last Thursday evening in the 400 metres hurdles at the famous Bislet Games in the Diamond League Thomas Barr had his best placing of the season so far as he finished second in a season's best time of 49.11seconds. Hot favourite and reigning World and European Champion Karsten Warholm Norway was a most impressive winner in a best time ever for him of 47.33 a new European Record and Kyron Mc Master British Virgin Islands was third in 49.12 a season's best for him also.Thomas had two runners behind him who had beaten him in Rome the previous week,so overall a very positive and pleasing performance. He now concentrates on a few weeks heavy training before his next race. His big priority of the year are the World Championships in Doha in late September,early October.The European Games are on from Friday June 21 st to June 30th in Minsk in Belarus and many sports are covered including athletics,Niamh Whelan will compete in the 100 metres there for Ireland..
ALDI Community Games Finals on Sunday
The RSC is the venue on Sunday next for the County Waterford Community Games Athletic finals. For the 3rd year, Waterford Community Games will be running the "Race for All" on Sunday The 60m event is for children with disabilities between the ages of 6 to 16 and living in the Community Games Affiliated areas.It will be the second event of the day after the hurdles.Athletes are asked to be there for 10.15am for the parade, with events starting at 11am .With 14 Communities registered the hope is that all will be represented on Sunday

The 27th year Annual Dungarvan Leader 5 miles run from Villierstown to Cappoquin is on Friday next at 7.30 pm and is a very popular race run over the famous Dromana Drive Course The winning athlete receives the Michael C. Nagle Memorial Trophy. Entries will be taken at Villierstown Community Hall with the presentation of prizes at Danny Flynn's Bar of Cappoquin,competitors must be over16.Its another race in the Intersport Elvery's /Asics Series

Last Saturday and Sunday in Castleisand the final two days of the Munster u 12 to 19 Championships were decided and Waterford figured very prominently especially Waterford AC . Aidan Burke had a fine championships winning both the u 16 1500m and 3000 m other Waterford AC winners were Evan Marshall u 18 3000m, Matteo Mary u 18 1500m, Meabh O'Connor u 16 Walk, David Scanlon u 15 discus and Emily Myers u 18 hammer, second placings went to Emily O'Mahony u 19 100m and triple jump , Emma Caulfield u 19 1500m and 3000 m, Ben Keane u 18 3000m and David Scanlon u 15 high jump,third placings were had by Julia Kelly u 16 hammer, Hannah Burke u 19 3000m,Liam Og Cuddihy u 19 1500m,Cormac Farrell u 19 hammer,Andrew Scanlon u14 discus.
