Continuing his preparation for the World Championships in Doha in late September Thomas Barr is in action this Thursday in the Diamond League meeting in Stockholm.Once again its a top class 400 metres hurdle race as he faces seven top athletes from around the World including the reigning World and European Champion Karsten Warholm from Norway .Again Thomas will be endeavouring to improve his time in each race this season and in the process secure another high placing on Thursday
All Ireland Secondary Schools finals in Tullamore on Saturday
Many athletes from Waterford Secondary schools boys and girls will be competing in Tullamore on Saturday next in the All Ireland Schools Track and Field finals which begin at 9 am for field events and at 9.30 am for track events.There are four grades minor, junior ,intermediate and senior The fixture will go on all day until 6 pm and a number of our athletes are expected to be in the shake up for honours Full time table is on Athletic Ireland Website. The Waterf0rd Primary Schools Sports Finals are in St Aufgustine's College Grounds Abbeyside this Thursday at 6.30 pm.
Race 3 Outfield Sports Series on Friday
Carrick on Suir Road Runners have their 3 rd race in their Outfield Sports Series in Carrick on Suir on this Friday at 7.30 pm. Its the Haven Pharmacy Lannens Deadman's 5 miles road race and entries will be taken in the usual location in Carrick from 6.15 pm. On Friday week June 7 th another race in the Elvery's/Asics Intersport Series will be the Annual 5 miles in Clashmore at 7.30 pm
190 runners and 100 walkers took part in the 25 th Annual Touraneena 5 km last Friday evening and the run was won by Noel Murphy Waterford in 15 minutes 55 seconds, Raivis Zakis West Waterford was second in 15.58 and Jamie Mc Carthy Waterford was third in 16.57.First lady home was Sally Forristal St Joseph's in 18.25,Lucy Holmes West Waterford was second in 18.34 and Madeline Loughnane Thurles was third in 18.52 The Category winneres were Men, M 40 Keith O'Brien Clonmel A.C,M 45 James Whelan West Waterford,M 50 John Cashman Midleton,M 55 Ray Hahesy West Waterford ,M 60 Neilus Ahearne Midleton,.Junior Tony Dwyer West Waterford A.C.1st Local Colm Ryan Touraneena Road Runners . A fine crowd turned out for the Harvey Travel Angela Burns Memorial10 km run and walk promoted by Ferrybank GAA last Saturday evening in ideal conditions and Adam Porter Waterford was first home in the run in 35 minutes 28 seconds,Craig O'Brien Ferrybank was second in 36.44 and David Kynes Kilcoole C Wicklow was third in 39.31 Maria Murphy Griffin St Joseph's was first lady home in 43.08,Janet Quinlan Saturday Road Runners was second in 44.25 and Anne Watkins was third in 44.34.The organisers wish to thank the Garda who escorted the athletes around the course and controlled traffic also,all the stewards and all at watering stations.
Munster Juvenile Results
Cork It Track was the venue on Saturday last for a Munster Juvenile Championship fixture which included u 9 to 11 team events,some u 12 and u 13 field events as well as Junior,Senior and Master's walks.For Blackwater Maya Rossa won the under 11 turbo javelin with a new record ,in team competitions Blackwater were 2nd in the u 11 girls turbo javelin and boys u 9 long jump and 3rd in the girls u 10 turbo javelin.For Finisk Valley Eddie Raicevic won the u 11 long jump and was second in the sprint and Eddie and Cayden Scanlon were third in the team javelin competition..

After a long illness the death took place last week of Eddie Hartley,Kilmurry, Slieverue he was in his 81 st year..In the late 1950's and early to mind 1960's Eddie was a well known middle distance and X Country runner with Clover AC and competed regularly at sports in County Waterford and all over Leinster winning many mile and 3 mile races including Kilkenny Championships over 1 and 3 miles.. He won the Kilkenny Senior X country title each year from 1962 to 1966 and also won Leinster medals.Sympathy is extended to his sister Alice and brother Billy and all the family from all involved on the local athletic scene in the South East.
