Olympian Thomas Barr will make his seasonal debut on Saturday next May 18 th in a Diamond League meeting in Shanghai,China in a top class 400 metres hurdles race. It is timed for 19.04 local time in Shanghai which will be 2.04 am our time Sunday.This year in late September early October Thomas will compete in the World Championships in Doha and will no doubt have many races preparing for the big event of the season.
County Championships Day 2 on Sunday
The RSC is the venue this Sunday for the final day of the County Championships which begin at 11 am sharp.First events on the track will be the sprint hurdles in all ages from u 9 to senior followed by all the Walks. Again lots of help required from all clubs to help run off the event smoothly.On Saturday the Munster Secondary Schools Track and Field fnals are in Cork IT and many Waterford boys and girls will compete,we are expecting quite a few to figure.
Waterford have entered County teams male and female in the National Senior League this year and the first round is on Sunday next in Temolemore.,by now many athletes will have been notified of the event with all the relative info.Anyone in the under U17 age category and older is eligible to participate. On Friday next May 17 th the Annual Splashworld 10km Road Race is in Tramore at 7pm entries at the venue from 5.30 pm.
County Championships a success.
On Sunday last at the RSC in excellent conditions day 1 of the County Track and Field Championships had a big turn out and all clubs in the county got among the winners, Waterford,West Waterford, Ferrybank,Tramore, KCK ,Finnisk Valley,Blackwater and Ardmore.Two athletes won four titles each both from Waterford AC Eoin Kenny and David Scanlon,sisters Lilly Mae and Lia Queally KCK both won three each and several others had doubles.

The wind sprint meeting at the RSC on Saturday last had a big entry in the races held and several National Champions were among them and quite a few recorded very fast times.the athletes came from all over the thirty two counties. In Yokohama on Saturday last at the World Relay Championships the Irish women's 4 x 100 m team did not progress from the heats and unfortunately Niamh Whelan Ferrybank did ot make the starting four.

On Friday last 205 competed in the Ardmore An Tobar 5 Mies road race and first home was Raivis Zakis West Waterford in 26 minutes18 seconds, Brian Murphy Carrick on Suir was second in 26.35 and Tony Fogarty Templemore was third in 27.15.First lady home was Sally Forristal St Joseph's in 30.06,Natalie Sheehan was second in 33.01 and Kelly Fitzgerald was third in 33.05 both West Waterford.It was race 4 of the Intersport Elvery's/Asics Series
