On Sunday next the second Munster X Country Championship fixture of the season is in Turnpike, Two Mile Borris Co Tipperary.This fixture was originally allocated to Waterford but Munster Council would not pay the fee demanded by WIT for the Carriganore venue and so it ended up in the Tipperary venue.
On the programme which begins at 11.30 am are the Championships for senior men and women as well as the Boys and girls u 9,11,13,15,17 and 19.
Waterford will be very well represented at the fixture.
Sanofi Road Race on Sunday
On Sunday morning next November 11 th the Annual Sanofi 5 Mls Run and Walk is in Waterford City at the Sanofi Factory out the old Kilmeaden Road, the walk starts at 10.30 am with the run at 11 am,Proceeds to Multiple Sceloris Society. On Saturday week the Beat The Train 10 miles is in Kilmeaden at 10 am.
The City Winter League begins this Thursday at 7 pm from the RSC and continues each Thursday until December 13 th , the Annual Santa Run is a separate run on December 20 th, then there's a break and it continues from January 3rd 2019 to February 7 th Distance each night 5 km.
170 competed in the 25 th Annual Brickey 5 km road race in the Brickey Rangers GAA area on Sunday morning last and first home was Niall Sheil St Killian's Wexford in 16 minutes 5 seconds,Noel Murphy Waterford was second in 16.28 and Denis Shanahan Thurles Crokes was third in 16.36.First lady home was Jacqui Carthy Kilmore Co Wexford in 18.15,Kate Veale West Waterford Ac was second in 18.28 and Louise Morgan Ferrybank was third in 19.41. It was race 1 of the Michael Roche Carpets Series and proceeds go to Brickey Rangers and Killrossanty GAA juvenile clubs.
At the Dublin City Marathon Mary B Ryan Jennings was second in the over 60 section.In the Schools Combined Events International in Scotland last Saturday Katie Nolke Ursuline Convent was 10 th in the junior section with 3066 points.
Attention all Road Race Organisers
Any Club or organisation promoting a road running race under an Athletics Ireland Permit directly or indirectly are reminded of the following. McMahon Galvin (AAI Insurer) state that the threshold for insurance in a 5k road running race is 16 years and for a 10k is 18. Its a very important notification and quite clear and all entry forms or notices should state it clearly prior to the event by the actual organisers.Clubs assisting other organisations should point this out
to all. Above applies to Athletics Ireland Permits. Athletes should always make sure they know beforehand what Insurance if any other groups have when staging events.
Safety on Roads
Again a reminder to all using the roads anywhere in our County for training after dark that there is an obligation on you to wear clear reflective clothing and groups should stay on one side of the road and only cross in groups at safe points.Common sense is always the best option for Safety of yourself and just as important of others.
European X Country for Ireland in 2020
Athletics Ireland has secured the hosting of the European Cross Country Championships for the second time. Members of the bid committee presented to the European Athletics Council in Budapest. The Big event will take place at the National Sports Campus on Sunday 13th December 2020. Athletics Ireland bid for this championship was supported by Fingal County Council, Sport Ireland and RTE. Athletics Ireland previously hosted a very successful European Cross Championships in Santry Demesne in 2009.
