On Saturday last Kate Veale West Waterford AC competed in Hilversum in The Netherlands at an International Sprint Race Walking Festival for the Benulux Cup and performed brilliantly. She competed in three track races over 1000 metres,1500 metres and 3000 metres over a three hour period and the winner was the athlete who had the best overall combined performance in the three races and that was Kate. She won her three races and in the 3000 metres she set a meet record of 12 minutes 58.75 seconds,the old mark of 13.19 being set by a Polish athlete and more important it was the fastest time ever recorded by a female athlete over 3000 metres in The Netherlands. Her times for the 1000 metres was 4.09.07 and for the 1500 metres 6.23.42.On Sunday she was back in action in Waterford City competing in the 5 miles run,finishing second lady home.
Kenyan wins in Passage
Almost 200 competed in the Annual Croppy Boy 10km and 5 km races in Passage East on Saturday last and the 10 km was won easily by the brilliant Kenyan athlete Freddie Sittuk who runs with Raheny Shamrocks Dublin,he clocked 33 minutes 40 seconds,Noel Murphy Waterford Ac was second home in 35.32 and Shane Kearney St Catherine's East Cork was third in 35.42,first lady home was Aisling Ferguson Waterford AC in 42.02 ,Emer Larkin Passage East was second in 42.19 and Evelyn Haran Ballygunner was third in 42.37 .The race is held in memory of the late Ronan Walsh Carey's Bridge Passage East who did his running with Raheny and quite a few from Raheny competed as did many members of the Walsh family and the organisation of the event was led by Michael Walsh and his wife A Commerative Mug was presennted to all who toook part.Proceeds went to Passage East and Crooke Development Association and the local Scouts Troop. Thanks to Garda Adrian Cullinane , Order of MaltaAmbulane Units and the various Voluntary Groups that helped out in many ways on the day.
Vradafjord 5 Miles
!45 competed in te Annual Vradafjord 5 Miles in the city on Sunday last and Trevor Swift Saturday Road Runners was first home in 27 minutes 34 seconds, Adam Porter Waterford was second in and Jason Travers West Waterford was third in 30.56 .First lady was Ruth Fitzgerald Waterford AC in 29.10 ,Kate Veale West Waterford AC was second in 31.33 and Clare Sherman was third in 35.25 .Proceeds go to Waterford Hospice.On Sunday last Andrew Connick won the Open 5 km X Country race in Stamullen Co Meath and Louise Morgan was 7 th in the ladies section both Ferrybank.Yuri Kinash West Waterford was in action in England on Sunday at the The Jim Day memorial Pole Vaulting competition, which was held at the David Weir Leisure Center London,Yuri vaulted a new personal best height of 4.71 which was the 2nd highest of the day with 100 vaulters taking part.

Hundreds of children from Schools all over the city and surrounding areas competed in the Annual Waterford Primary Schools X Country organised by Ferrybank AC at the RSC on Tuesday last September 18 th and the majority of schools had individual medal winners. Dates for the County Cross Country Championships are Sunday next September 30 th Under 8,10,12,14,16,18 and senior incorporated into the Annual West Waterford Open, Sunday October 7 th u 9,11,13,15,17,19 and Novice, Sunday October 14 th B juvenile, u9,11,13,15, first 6 home no teams also Master's, all 11 am venue for all St Augustine's College Abbeyside. With the weather now changed all spectators are asked to come prepared for the underfoot conditions and all children should be warmed up well for their races. An appeal is made to all clubs in the County with adult runners male and female to get them out competing at the County X Country Championships, they have County Senior next Sunday, Novice on October 7 th and Masters October 14 th male and female with individual and team medals, all in Abbeyside.Kilmacow also have their Open X Country on Sunday next at 1 pm.
