Seven hundred and fifty have entered for the Eurofins Greenway Half Marathon on Saturday next organised by West Waterford AC It starts in Kilmacthomas at 9 am and buses from finish line in Ballinroad leaving at 7.30 am to bring runners to the start line in Kilmacthomas.Prize-giving and refreshments will take place immediately after the race in Ballinroad Hall. There will be showers and changing available by kind permission in Ballinroad Soccer Club
Cill Barra 5 km on Friday
On Friday evening at 7 pm the Annual Cill Barra 5 km run and 3 km walk takes place in the Ballybeg area of Waterford City and entries will be taken from 5.30pm in the Cill Barra Centre in Ballybeg proceeds to Waterford Marine Search and Rescue.
Joe in Malaga for World Master's
The World Master's Track and Field Championships will be in Malaga from September 5 th to 14 th and one hundred and twent athletes from Ireland wil be competing there men and women in various age groups. Waterford's sole representative will be Joe Gough West Waterford in the over 65 800 metres and 1500 metres. The heats of the 800 metres are on Sunday morning next and the final is on Tuesday morning.The 1500 metres heats are set for Saturday morning September 15 th with the final on Sunday morning September 16 th. No doubt once again Joe will make his presence felt in both races.
Noel Murphy wins
180 competed in the Ballinameela 5 km Road Race last Friday evening and the overall winner was Noel Murphy Waterford in 16 minutes 10 seconds,Ciarán Mc Keown Watergrasshill was second in 16.24 and Jamie Mc Carthy Waterford was third in 16.27.First Lady home was Sally Forristal St Joseph's in 18.02, Madeline Loughnane Thurles was second in 18.08 and Kate Veale West Waterford was third in 18.28.The Category winners were as follows Women F 35 Elaine Horgan Clonmel, F 40 Evelyn Drohan West Waterford,F45 Brigid Coffey do, F50 Una Ui Mhuirrithe Ind,Junior Natalie Nicholson St Catherine's. Men M40 Alan O'Connor United Striders,M45 Benny Hahesy Carrick on Suir,M50 Ray Hahessy West Waterford ,M55 Joe Gough do, Junior Luke Brennan Waterford. It was the final race of the Intersport Elvery's/Asics Series. The overall Series winners were Kevin O'Leary East Cork who got the O'Hogáin Trophy and and Sally Forristal who got the Slateway's Trophy
