A sea of orange is set to hit the streets of Waterford on Sunday next October 8th for the ninth Annual Solas Cancer Support Centre 10 miles Run and 5 miles Walk for Life, supported by event partner Datapac and media partner Beat 102 103.The race starts Gladstone Street at 12.30 pm , and as always finishes in the People’s Park with the ‘Fun for Life’, a family fun event for those waiting to cheer you over the finish line, hosted by Beat 102 103.Presently entries are being taken on totaltiming.ie. no entries on day.Two Course are in operation with the run travelling down along The Quay,The Mall ,Parnell St, Manor St turning left after Dunphy's Shop out the Tramore road to the Tramore Roundabout at Ballindud, turning left over the Ring Road to Solas Centre Roundabout, turn right out to the Gael Scoil in Ballyguunner left down to Dunmore Road near Riverside Cottage then straight back in towards the city following signage and directions by stewards that will take all back to Peoples Park The walk comes down the Quay over The Mall, Parnell St turn left at Car Stand all the way up John's Hill to Solas Centre Roundabout ,turn left over to WRH and then back in towards the city again following signage and stewards directions to The Peoples Park. All are asked to keep to the left hand side of road. Motorists are advised there will be delays on the route but these will be kept to the minimum.
County Cross Country Championships continue
On Sunday next with an 11 am start the County Cross Country season continues in St Augustine's College Abbeyside with the following events on the programme. Boys and girls under 9,11,13,15,17 u19, Novice, Looking further ahead to Sunday October 15 th the County Juvenile (B) u 9,u11,u13, u15, and Master's are at the same venue at 11 am. Please note in the B Juvenile there are no team prizes ,just medals for first 6 home in each event.
Kate Veale wins in London
Having her first 20 km walk in years Kate Veale West Waterford competed in the British Race Walking Festival in Hillingdon London on Sunday last and she won the race in 1 hir 52 minutes 45 seconds in very wild conditions.
Connick and Queally win senior titles
On Sunday last there was a fine entry for all the races at the County X Cuntry Championship fixture in Abbeyside. The Senior and Junior Championships were included with the Annual West Waterford James Hughes meeting and the men's senior champion for 2017 is Andrew Connick Ferrybank who also gets the James Hughes Perpetual Cup.,the ladies senior crown also went to a Ferrybank athlete Orla Queally. In the juvenile championships three members of the one West Waterford family won titles,Isobelle Gaffney u 8,her sister Sarah u 10 and their brother David u 12. Croppy Boy Road Races in Passage
Despite the miserable weather prevailing there was a fine entry for the 10 k and 5k road races in the Passage East area on Saturday last, with a big entry from Raheny Shamrocks in Dublin. Both events were started by Noel Connors the well known Passage and Waterford hurling star. 98 finished the 10 k and they were led home by Brian Muphy Carrick on Suir in 32 minutes 49 seconds and he claimed the Ronan Walsh Memorial Cup,second home was Dermot Gorman Raheny in 33.21 and Mck Traynor also from Raheny was third in 35.10. First Lady home was Sylvia Malone Waterford in 38.36, Mary Walsh Raheny was second in 41.46 and Aisling Ferguson was third in 42.06. First man home in the 5 k was Tom Enright in 20.22 and Charlie Joe Neun ,scouts was second in 20.57 ,the first two ladies were Jenny Mulrey Raheny her time being 20.21 and Aine Walsh was second in 23.05.The category winners in the 10 k were Men; M40 Eamon Traynorand M50 Damien Martin both Raheny,Women;F 40 CaitrionaCostelloe Raheny and F 50 Adrienne Atkins do. 5 k Men;u18 John Pierson and women u 18 Orlaith Walsh Kill St Nicholas 84 finished this race.It was a very well organised event with many stewards around the courses from he Gardai,Order of Malta Passage East and Crooke Development Ass, and the local hurling and scouts.Race promoter Michael Walsh thanked all who were involved including the sponsors who were also each thanked numerous times over the PA and Suirway Buses for their Coach ferrying athletes to the start. The proceeds go to The Development Association and Local Scout Group.
