The Manchester International track and field meet was held on Wednesday last at the Etihad Stadium . West Waterford's Kate Veale was a member of the Squad of Irish walkers who participated in the 3000 metres walk and she was first of the Irish home in third place in 13 minutes 29.21 seconds,another good result .The event was won by Heather Lewis Wales in 13.15,Erica Kelly of England was second in 13.15.88 and Kate third.
National Community Games
Waterford was represented at the National Athletic Finals of the Community Games in the National Sports Campus last Saturday and Sunday and best performance came from Shane Cawley in the under 16 discus where he finished a close second with a throw of 38.90 metres ,Cathal Scanlon was 4 th in the under 16 high jump with a personal best jump of 1.70 metres and he won a medallion also and in the final of the under 12 relay for girls the team was 5 th, Some other good performances were also given by athletes reaching finals and semi finals.

195 competed in the18th Annual Glaxosmithkline 5 miles road race in Dungarvan last Friday evening and the overall winner was Kevin O'Leary East Cork in 26 minutes 42 seconds,Noel Murphy Waterford was second in 27.15 and Raivis Zakis West Waterford was third in 27.18. From August 20 th to 25th the athletic competitions at the the World University Games go ahead in Taipei,Taiwan and Niamh Whelan from Ferrybank AC is on the Irish team and will compete in the 100 metres heats on Wednesday August 23 rd early morning ,we wish her well.
Sanofi 5 miles on Friday
The Annual Sanofi Five Miles Road Race for M.S.will take place on Friday next the 25th of August with walkers leaving Sanofi on the Old Kilmeaden Road in Waterford at 6.30pm and runners at 7pm. All funds raised will go to the Waterford and South Kilkenny branch of M.S. Ireland. Registration is still open at totaltiming.ie, and on Friday up to 6.45 pm for runners at the venue.
