Irish University titles for three Waterford athletes
On Friday and Saturday last the Fyffes All Ireland University Track and Field Championships were held at the Cork IT grounds and continuing the great winning sequence by Waterford athletes at National events there were three winners. Olympian Thomas Barr competing for University of Limerick having his first races of the outdoor season had a very busy and successful two days.On Friday his first race was the semi final of the 400 metres hurdles and he won it decisively in 51.73 seconds and later on he ran for University of Limerick in the 4x 400 metres relay semi final and again it was a very impressive victory ensuring two final runs for him on Saturday. First up on Saturday was the 400 metres hurdles final and he outclassed the field to win in a very respectable time of 50.92 seconds,and later ran the anchor leg in the emphatic relay victory of University of Limerick. Thomas Houlihan representing CIT competed on Saturday in the pole vault and won it decisively with a vault of 4.30 meters, he also won the Indoor title in February. The third winner on Saturday was Kate Veale competing for DCU and she did it in her favourite sport-race walking. Kate the World Youth champion in 2011 only returned to the sport in the past few months after a few years absence and after finishing second in the indoor championships in February she effortlessly went one better on Saturday to destroy the field winning the 1500 metres in 6 minutes and 23.08 seconds just 500 hundreds of a second outside the 23 years old record set by Gillian O'Sullivan. Sean Archer from WIT was also a medal winner taking the silver in the triple jump with13.62 metres not far behind the winner. Órla O'Connor Waterford AC competed in Podebrady in The Czech Republic at a EA Race Walking Meeting on Saturday last and did well. This was Orla's first 10k race and she finished in 11th place of the 34 competing in an excellent time of 50.46 just one second outside European Junior qualifying standard

There was a huge turnout for the Ferrybank AC Open Sports Meeting on Sunday last at the RSC.. The Shield for the best juvenile club on the day was retained by the holders St Lawrence O'Toole AC in Carlow. Ballinroad 5 KM details
The first road race in this years West Waterford series the Intersport Elverys/Asics MTS Broadband Ballinroad 5 Km was held on Friday last and it attracted an entry of 280. The overall winner was Niall Blackwell in 16 minutes13 seconds ,Ravis Zakis was second in 16.20 and Dzintars Klava was third in 16.36 all three West Waterford,first lady home was Sally Forristal St Joseph's in 18.47, Áine Roche was second in 19.11and Kealy Tideswell was third in 20.00 both Clonmel.
Butlerstown Road Race on Friday
The Annual SE2 4 miles Butlerstown Road Race is on Friday next at 7 pm and its race 2 of the Intersport Elverys /Asics Series entries will be taken on the evening at Butlerstown GAA Centre from 5.45 pm. On Sunday the Annual Easter Bunny Run starts at the RSC at 11 am ,there is also a 5 Km walk
Kilmacow Open Sports
On Monday next with a 1 pm start the Annual Kilmacow Open Sports is at the Complex in Kilmacow with a big programme for the day.Lots of events for boys and girls under 8 to u 19 and juniors including track and field,relays and walks.Full programme on St Senan's Website.
