Competing in a Junior International Cross Country race in Atapuerca in Burgos in Spain last Sunday Barry Keane Waterford AC had a very good race to finish 14 th overall in a field of 152..At the same meeting Fionnula Mc Cormack Ireland had a terrific run in the senior race to finish 5 th -the first European home-behind Ethiopian and Kenya runners.
All Ireland Schools medals won.
At the All Ireland Schools Combined Event Championships in Athlone on Saturdy last just three athletes from Waterford schools competed and all did well. Jordan Cunningham De La Salle had fine win in the minor grade with 2740 points , Shane Monagle Árd Scoil na Mara Tramore also impressed being second overall in the Intermeiate Championship with a total of 3279 points,the event was won with 3396.In the junior girls Emily O'mahony from St Augstine's finished 6 th
West Waterford impress in Limerick.
At thev Munster X Cross Country Champioship fixture on Limerick Racecourse on Sunday last athletes from West Waterford did extremely well in the under age events both in the individual and team sections. Individually Tommy Fennel was second under 13, third placings went to David Gaffney u 11 and Conor Mullaney u 15, 5 th places went to Lucy Holmes u 15, Cian O'Riordan u 17 and Niall Blackwell u 19,.Aoife Hamilton was 6 th u 19 , Kate Hickey u 17 and Rachel Wyley u 19 were both 8th, Oisin O'Riordan was 9 th u 15, Hannah Power 10 th u 19 and Caoimhe Dwyer 12 u 19. At inter club level they had three team victories with girls u 15, u 19 and junior and seconds wth boys u 11 and girls u 13 and third with boys u 15. For Ferrybank Fionn Phelan was second under 9, Jake Bagge 9 th u 17 and Eilis Mc Hugh 10 th u 9 and Niamh Murphy 11 th in junior grade,the girls u 17 team was third. Waterford AC had a 5 th with Aidan Burke u 13 and under 17 Hugo Blair was 7 th, Luke Brennan 10 th and Evan Kene 11 th and their team was second, for KCK Senan Devine was 7 th u 9. Waterford at Inter County level won gold,silver and bronze team medals also.
British and Irish Masters X Country
Two athletes from these parts competed on the Irish Masters Cross Country teams for the Annual British and Irish Masters matches in Glasgow on Saturday last. With many different age groups competing in races both were part of Irish teams placed .Frank Quinlan was on the Men's Combined team that finished second and Adele Walsh St Senan's was on the Combined Women's team that were third.
Munster fixture in Abbeyside.
On Sunday next November 20 th the Munster Juvenile Inter club X Country Relays u 10,12,14,16 and Master's Championship's men and women are in St Augustine's College,Grounds Abbeyside and the first event is at 11.30 am.With the juvenile relays now an Inter club event instead of Inter County a huge entry is expected in each age group while the Master's will also cater for many ages.
On Sunday 27 th November the All Ireland under 12,14,16,18 and Inter Club Senior and Junior X Country Championships are in Abbotstown, Dublin. The Munster Juvenile "B" & Intermediate Cross Country Championships, are on Sunday 4th December 2016 in Clarecastle GAA Club, Clarecastle, Co Clare @ 11.30am.
The Winter League in the City is back every Thursday for 12 nights in total starting from the RSC each Thursday at 7 pm .This years route choices are a 5KM or a 5 Mile. You can register forthe series online now for €35 (€40 for series registration on the night) or you can pay as you go. .
Annual Turkey Trot
On Sunday week November 27th the 8th Annual Paddy Joe Curran Old ParishTurkey Trot 5 miles run and 4 miles walk will take place at the Marine Bar, Pulla, Dungarvan on the Youghal Road. All proceeds from this year's event will go toSERT South East Radiotherapy Trust. The 4 mile walk will begin at 11am, while the 5 miles run will get under way at 12 noon
