Hundreds are expected to take part in the Solas Centre 10 miles run and 5 miles walk on Sunday next starting near Shaw's on The Quay at 12.30 pm and finishing inside The People's Park entering The Park from Park Road .Two Course are in operation with the run travelling down along The Quay, The Mall ,Parnell St, Manor St turning left after Dunphy's Shop out the Tramore road to the Tramore Roundabout at Ballindud, turning left over the Ring Road to Solas Centre Roundabout, turn right out to the Gael Scoil in Ballyguunner left down to Dunmore Road near Riverside Cottage then straight back in towards the city following signage and directions by stewards that will take all back to Peoples Park The walk comes down the Quay over the Mall Parnell St turn left at Car Stand all the way up John's Hill to Solas Centre Roundabout ,turn left over to WRH and then back in towards the city again following signage and stewards directions to The Peoples Park. All are asked to keep to the left hand side of road. Motorists are advised there will be delays on the route but these will be kept to the minimum.
County Championships continue
Sunday next also sees the second day of the County Cross Country Championship season go ahead in St Augustine's College Grounds Abbeyside and again there will be an 11 am start, the races this time are for boys and girls under 9,11,13,15,17,19, Novice Men and women. All clubs are asked to get plenty of athletes out in each event and that all competing have trained for the distances they are running.
Munster Schools Combined events
This Wednesday October 5 th the Munster Schools Combined events are at Cork IT Track with four grades involved minor, junior ,intermediate and senior for boys and girls. A number of athletes from Waterford schools compete and the first event is at 11.30 am, full timetable on Munster Athletics Website.
County Cross Country
In excellent weather the County Cross Country Championship season began in St Augustine's College Abbeyside Grounds on Sunday last and there were large entries in the majority of races The senior ,junior and under 18 championships were incorporated into the West Waterford AC open fixture The two winners of the open senior races were Kevin Maunsell Clonmel and Adele Walsh St Senan's. Autumn Cross Country
The Annual Open Cross Country fixture is on Sunday October 16 th at the National Sports Campus in Abbotstown Co Dublin There are races for boys and girls under 10,12,14,16,18,Junior,Senior and Masters.Full details re entry timetable etc on Athletics Ireland website. it will incorporate trials for the British and Irish Masters Cross Country. In order for Master's to be considered for selection they must compete in their distance. First event is at 11 am.
First Munster Cross Country
On Sunday October 23 rd the first Munster Cross Country Championship of the season is in Ballinahina, Carrig Na Bhfearr in County Cork .its the even ages for boys and girls under 10,12,14,16,18, as well as the under 23 and Novice. men and women, first event 11.30 am.
