St Augustine's College Abbeyside is the venue on Sunday next for the start of the County Championship Cross Country season which also has the Annual West Waterford AC Open fixture. Starting at 11 am sharp the championship races are for boys and girls under 8 ,10,12,14,16,18 as well as junior and senior with the latter three grades incorporated into the open fixture starting at 12 noon approx. with a few master's category included in the open race.These are for women O35,40,45,50,and men O40,45,50,55. Spectators coming to XCountry for the first time please bring suitable footwear for the conditions and for children not training for the distances their inclusion is not recommended. Please note all the fixtures start on time and girls under 8 is first on Sunday.and all clubs are asked to have a few people to help out.The second section is on Sunday week October 9 th at 11 am catering for under 9 to 17 and the Novice.
Vadrafjord 5 miles run details
On Sunday last in the city the Vadrafjord 5 miles run starting near The Reg at the bottom of the Quay in and taking in a circuit of the city attracted a fine entry of 195. The very easy winner of the event was Frank Quinlan Waterford AC. in 26.minutes 30 seconds,Martin Kirwan was second in 29.29 and Pat Grant was third in 29.39. First lady home was Sylvia Malone Watterford in 30.58,Elaine O'Donovan was second in 33.09 and Mary Molloy Carrick on Suir was third in 33.54. Many Waterford wins in Kilmacow
Waterford athletes were well to the fore at the Kilmacow Open Cross Country last Sunday. Barry Keane Waterford was first home in the senior men's race, with Andrew Connick Ferrybank second and Sean Mc Grath East Cork third ,first junior was Jamie Mc Carthy and first master Des Colbert both Waterford. Adele Walsh St Senan's won the ladies from Sally Forristal St Joseph's and Claude Lane Mary Waterford.In the juvenile section the following won Girls;u 18 Ruth Heery Waterford,u 16 Una O'Brien Tramore, U 9 Eilis Mc Hugh Ferrybank and boys u 18 Hugo Blair Waterford and ZacO'Sullivan Tramore u 10,second placings went to Eoin Prendergast u 8,CaoimhePrendergast u12 both West Waterford, Cassandra Abullo u 9 ,Matteo Mary u16, Anne O'Connor u16 and Conor Shiels u 18 all Waterford and Callum Hurley Ferrybank u 14. The following were third Sarah Mernin u8,Siun Mernin u9 and Brian Scanlon u 10 all Finisk Valley, Allie Cunningham u12,Oisin O'Riordan u14 and Kate Hickey u 16 all West Waterford, Órla O'Connor u16, Waterford and Fionn Phelan u 9 and Craig O'Brien u 18 both Ferrybank.. Team prizes were also won by a few clubs.
