In Nenagh on Sunday last the Munster Senior and Masters Indoor Championships as well as a few under 23 and junior championships were held and Waterford athletes figured prominently especially in the Master's events. In the senior section Dion Ryan Waterford AC was second in the long jump ,at under 23 level Richard Lucas Ferrybank was third in the under 23 section 3000 metres and there were junior wins by Grace Furlong and James Murphy Waterford AC both in the triple jump.
Many Master's winners
In the master's West Waterford AC had wins with Gregory Fitzgerald in the over 40 200 and 400 metres,Joe Gough again had a double in the over 60 200 and 800 metres, Harry O'Brien won the 800 metres over 50 and third placings were secured by Ray Hahessy in the 3000 metres over 50 and Des Feeney in the 1500 metres over 40. In the ladies section Terri Gough won the 60,200 and 800 metres over 70. For Waterford AC Brendan Leahy won the 200 metres over 35, Paschal Halley had a double over 45 in the 800 metres and long jump,Nicola Hayes was first over 40 in the 60 metres and had two seconds in the 200 metres and shot putt. Tramore ladies also did well with Jacqui Magee winning the 60 and 200 metes over 45 ,Shirley Fennelly won in the same grade in the long jump ,was second in the shot putt and third in the 200 metres .Elaine Barry was second in the o 45 200 metres and third in the 800 metres and Kathleen Marachelewsky was second in the long jump over 40,their relay team were second also. Antrim X Country
Two young athletes from Waterford competed with an Irish under 17 development team at the International cross country event in Antrim last Saturday and both did very well. David Mc Glynn Waterford AC was 5th and Miceál Power West Waterford was 6th.
Colligan Cup details
The 28 th Annual Kiely Monumental Cup run was held in Colligan Wood outside Dungarvan on Sunday last and J P Curtin was the winner, the ladies shield was won by Mary Harney for the second year in succession Paddy,Gilhooley won the Vincent Mullins Trophy and the Juvenile shield winner was David Butler. In this event the athletes predict the time it will take them to cover the course the winner being the athlete who is nearest to his prediction but not outside it. .
Schools Cross Country

The Annual Frank Leahy Memorial 5 miles run in aid of St Paul's Parish is on Sunday next January 24 th starting in Lismore Park Waterford near The Craftsman Lounge at 1 pm with a 3 miles walk also on the programme starting at 12.30 pm.Entries are being taken on totaltiming.ie and will also be taken at the start on Sunday from 11.30 am.
Indoor Events this week end
The All Ireland Indoor combined events in all categories will be in Athlone on Saturday next January 23 rd first event 10 am, and on Sunday 24 th the Munster Indoor Juvenile Relays are in Nenagh as are the under 15 to 19 pole vaults they begin at 11 am and on Sunday week January 31 st the All Ireland junior and under 23 Indoor championships are in Athlone.
