Postponed in early December the Annual Waterford AC Half Marathon is scheduled for Saturday next and is a full house again, with some excellent elite athletes competing in the 2000 strong field. The race starts and finishes at WIT Sports Campus Carriganore. The organisers would like to ask motorists to be patient with the road delays around the Butlerstown roundabout and the Holy Cross and along by Whitfield Clinic and to obey the gardai and marshals .Start time 10.00 am sharp and be earlier for Car parking as when Carpark is full no one will be allow enter the WIT Sports Campus. Anyone interested in marshaling or helping out on the day to contact Trevor Walsh or Des Colbert.
Munster Indoor titles won
Last Saturday and Sunday saw the start of the Indoor season in Nenagh when the Munster Junior and under 23 Championships as well as the juvenile Combined events were held. A small number of athletes from Waterford AC and Ferrybank competed and both clubs got among the winners. For Ferrybank Cormac Mc Cann had a junior double in the 60 and 200 metres, Sorcha Murphy won the under 23 high jump with 1.65 metres a championship best performance,in the juvenile under 13 combined Katie Nolke was third under 13.For Waterford AC there were wins by Dion Ryan in the junior long jump and 3000 metres walk by Órla O'Connor with Anna O,Connor second and Hannah Jacob third. Dion Ryan was second in the junior high jump with Cian O'Brien third in the same event,in the youths combined James Murphy was second and in the juvenile under 16 Emily O'Mahony was third as was Andrew Scanlon under 11.
Baldy Man 5 miles win for Jennings
Over 300 competed in the Baldy Man 5 miles run in Tramore on Sunday December 27 th and Emmet Jennings Dundrum South Dublin son of Mary Ryan Jennings was the impressive winner in a time of 31 minutes 17 seconds ,Brian Murphy Carrick on Suir was second in 31.29. and Dermot Cummins West Waterford was third in 32.21. First lady home was ÓrnaMurray Ferrybank in 38.02, Maria Halley do was second in 39.27 and Áine Kirwan Thomastown was third in 40.36 Category winners were as follows. Ladies F35 Mary Molloy Ck on Suir,F40 Jean Wallace BB Tri,F45 Jacqui Mc Gee Tramore, F 50 Una Ui Mhuirithe ,F60 Mary B Ryan Jennings Waterford.Men F 35 Patrick Roche Ck on Suir, M 40 Peter Barry, Waterford Triathlon Club M45 Paschal Halley, Waterford M50 Eoin Palmer, M55 Walter Keane Waterford West Waterford.,M60 Joe Gough. In the under 14 races also held the winners were as follows Boys 1 st David Williams St Senans ,2nd Tom Halley Tramore, 3 rd Ben Wallace St Senan's and in the girls 1st Órla Kirwan, 2nd Sarah Stone 3 rd Zara Breslin do The proceedswent to the Tramore Voluntary Housing Association Sheltered Housing for Elderly On St Stephen's Day West Waterford AC in association with Dungarvan GAA Club held their annual charity run and it raised €1,700 for The Hospice Foundation and in Clonmel on the same day James Ledingham was 6 th and Damien Murpy 10 th both West Waterford in the 4 miles run where over 400 competed.
There is a park run starting in Tramore every Saturday..Its a free 5 km weekly timed run (not a race) organised by volunteers in Tramore to try and encourage people from beginners to Olympians to get out and take part in a free weekly organised event. To take part all you do is register on www.parkrun.ie/Tramore and print out your barcode and bring it with you every week. It is suitable for walkers, runners and joggers, you can bring your dog once they are on a lead. Children welcome but under 11's must run with their parents.
