The first day of the County Track and Field Championships will be on Sunday next at the RSC with the first event on a very big list getting under way at 11 am. all clubs have a copy of the programme long ago and should by now have made their athletes aware of what's on .Lots of help required on the day from all clubs to help run off the event smoothly. On Wednesday this week the East Munster Girls Track and Field Championships are at the RSC at 12 noon with a big Waterford interest
Portlaw 5 miles on Friday
The second race in the Outfeld Sports 3 County Challenge series takes place in Portlaw at 7.30 pm this Friday.Its the Annual Tom Jordan memorial 5 miles and entries in Portlaw from 6.15 pm. The Splashworld 10 km road race is on Friday week in Tramore at 7 pm see total timing website
Waterford to Tramore win for Quinlan
On Saturday last the 46 th Annual Bluewall sponsored Paddy Flanagan Memorial Race from Waterford to Tramore attracted an entry of 360. Frank Quinlan Waterford AC led from the start and was the runaway winner in a time of 40 minutes 43 seconds, Emmet Kelly Waterford Triathlon Club was second in 43.23 and Paul Gibbons Sliabh Bhui Rovers Wexford was third in 43.41. First lady home was Adele Walsh St Senan's in 48.45, Elaine O' Donovan St Joseph's was second in 49.19 and Laura Robinson Lusk Co Dublin was third in 50.18 It was race 3 of the Ger Wyley Sports Skins Series Category winners were as follows.Men; junior Evan Mc Connell Ind, M40 PJ Scollard Waterford,M 45 Ger Murray, Ind M50 Martin Hayes West Waterford,M55 Walter Keane Waterford ,M60 Gerrard Lynch Ind. Team winners Waterford Ladies F35 Janet Quinlan Saturday Road Runners, F 40 Yvonne O'Connor Clonmel, F45 Diane Behan Waterford, F50 Siobhan Kennedy Focus on Fitness F 55 Marta .Team winners West Waterford Mrs Flanagan's special award went to Walter Keane. Secondary Schools Championships
The RSC was the venue on Wednesday last for the Waterford Secondary Schools Track and Field Championships and there were some very good competitions with a number of records set also. Anne Corcoran Ursuline had a treble at inter/senior level in 300 m,long jump and shot and the following athletes had doubles Paula Igwe Ursuline, Clodagh Monahan Waterpark in minor grade, Emily O' Mahony St Augustine's, Sarah Jacob Ursuline, James Delahunty Waterpark at juniro level, Emily Goff Ursuline,Dion Ryan Waterpark, Eoin Kenny De La Salle, Eoghan Flynn Dungarvan CBS and Laura Monahan Waterpark inter/senior Records were set by Órlaith O'Brien Yeats College in the inter/senior javelin with 37.82 m,Kylie Heinen St Declan's in junior high jump,1.53m Una O Brien Waterpark 1500 metres minor 5 minutes .20 .58 seconds and Eoghan Flynn Dungarvan CBS inter/senior javelin,51.38m. Almost 1000 children competed in the Bank of Ireland Waterford Primary Schools Sports at the RSC on Tuesday April 26 th promoted by Ferrybank AC and it was a most enjoyable event.The best Large boys school award went to Ballygunner followed by Scoil Lorcain and St Mary's Ferrybank, in the girls it was Ballygunner again first,St John of God second and Ursuline third.The best small school was Portlaw. with De La Salle Stephen St second, and Gael Sciol na n Deise third. A number of athletes had doubles and these were David Taga St Mary's Ferrybank u 8, Fadullo Bullo Scoil Lorcain u 9, Tiffany Hiikaku Mercy u10. medals were won by all the schools competing those in the city and also those in outlying areas.
