The Cork City Marathon on Monday was won by Philip Harty West Waterford in a time of 2 hrs 32 minutes,58 seconds. Philip has won many road races in his career but this is the one that stands out and was just reward for his dedication to the sport over many years training week in week out and running regularly, His brother William was a star in his day also and represented Ireland at the World Cross Country at junior level.
Three All Ireland School titles won
The GolHealth All Ireland Schools Track and Field Championships were held inTullamore on Saturday last with 120 events being held in four grades minor,junior,intermediate and senior for boys and girls. Waterford athletes had very good results with three winning titles in the senior grade and many siver and bronze medals were won. also The three winners were Dion Ryan Waterpark in the high jump with a personal best of 2 metres,Órlaith O'Brien Yeats College in the javelin with a throw of 40.22 metres (she won the Intermediate title last year) andYuri Kanash St Augustine's won the pole vault with 4.40 metres. The silver medal winners were Órla O'Connor Waterpark intermediate 2000 metres walk and the following at junior level,Jake Bagge Árd Scoil na Mara Tramore 1500 metres,Kylie Heinen St Declan's Kilmacthomas high jump.Emily O'Mahony St Augustine's triple jump ,Grace Furlong CBS New Ross who competes with Waterford AC in Club competition was second in the senior triple jump.Third placings went to Barry Keane St Declan's 5000 metres senior,Anne Corcoran Ursuline senior 400 metres, Emily O'Mahony St Augustine's junior long jump, Luke Power Dungarvan CBS junior discus and Grace Furlong senior long jump.
Aisling's good Belgian Run
Competing at a meeting in Oordegem in Belgium on Saturday last Aisling Quinn Ferrybank ran a big personal best in a 1500 metres race with a time of 4 minutes 28.24 seconds just .24 of a second off the World junior qualifying standard and 8 seconds faster than her previous best.At the same meeting Namh Whelan from the same club was third in a 200 metres race in 24.03 seconds.
Carrick on Suir Race
100 competed in the Deadman's 5 miles Road Race in Carrick on Suir on Friday evening last in glorious conditions including many from Waterford clubs it was race 3 of the Outfield Sports Series. Kevin Maunsell Clonmel led from the start and was the easy winner in a time of 25 minutes 39 seconds, Brian Murphy Carrick on Suir was second in 26.08 and Niall Sheil St Killians W exford was third in 26.31. First Lady was Clare Annan Clonmel in 30.24,Sylvia Malone Waterford was second in 30.39 and Ann Marie Boland Clonmel was third in 33.34 Promoted by Carrick on Suir Road Runners it was a very well organised event with support from The Gardai,Red Cross, Carrick on Suir Search and Rescue,Carrick Swan's GAA club and many stewards and helpers.
Niamh Whelan and Jessie Barr are expected to run next Saturday in races in Geneva and Krlly Proper may make her seasons debut the following week in Belgium,she has been injured
Faithlegg 5 miles on Wednesday
The Faithlegg Golf Course 5 miles is back again this year on this Wednesday the 8th of June.. Faithlegg Golf Club is the only golf course in Ireland that has a 5 miles race on its golf course and allowing you run on ist fairways and grounds, it's a great opportunity to run something very unique. Register on totaltiming.ie for only €15 there will be limited entry on the night for €20. if 250 haven't been entered online. The race starts at 7 pm and takes in a small piece of road as well as the Goll Course and normal road running shoes required.
