On Saturday and Sunday last in Morton Stadium in Santry in Dublin the Irish University Track and Field Championships were held and a number of athletes who do their club athletics with Waterford clubs competed with various Institutions two won titles and both compete with Ferrybank AC. Andrew Connick representing WIT easily won the 10000 metres in a time of 32 minutes 15 seconds and Sorcha Murphy representing UL won the high jump with 1.65 metres.,Thomas Houlihan from West Waterford was third in the Pole Vault with 4.20 metres for Cork IT.Another WIT medal winner was Trisha Curtin in the javelin with 34.99 metres.
National Road Relays
26 teams competed in the National Road Relay Championship in Raheny on Sunday last including the Ferrybank AC team of Niall Tuohy,Tadg Brennan,Andrew Connick and Brian Gallagher and in a high standard competition they finished 8 th in a total time of 39 minutes 45 seconds,Raheny won in 37.26.
Butlerstown 4 miles
330 competed in the 34 th Annual SE2 Butlerstown 4 miles road race on Friday last and a native of Butlerstown Trevor Power Waterford AC proved the easy winner in a time of 20 minutes 46 seconds,in second place was Niall Sheil St Killian's Wexford in 21.03 and Eoin Lyons Waterford Triathlon the early leader was third in 21.53. First Lady home was Jacqui Carthy Kilmore Co Wexford in 23.54, Sylvia Malone running as an individual was second in 24.39 and Anna Lee Hore Kilmore was third in 23.54. The following were the age category winners Men; O/40 Des Colbert Waterford AC 23.10, O/45, P. J. Guinan do 23.28, O/50 Ray Hahesy West Waterford AC 24.11, O/55 Walter Keane Waterford AC 24.21,.O/60 Sylvie O'Mahony Youghal AC 29.05, Junior Evan O'Connell IND. 29.44. Ladies O/35 Joan Mahony Waterford AC 26.13, O/40 Adele Walsh St Senans AC 25.10, O/45 Diane Behan Waterford AC 28.46, O/50 Gabrielle Blair do 29.41, O/60 Mary Francis do 37.43, Junior Órla Queally Ferrybank AC 27.07. The proceeds went to The Waterford Alzheimer Society and Butlerstown GAA. The Organisers led by Vinny Codd wish to thank the Gardai,Stewards,Butlerstown GAA including all the ladies who served the refreshments,management and staff at The Holy Cross Lounge ,the main sponsors SE2 plus all other sponsors announced over the PA several times during the event.
Waterford AC have good results
A small group of athletics travelled from Waterford AC to Cushinstown's Open Sports in County Meath last Sunday and they did very well with three wins and a number of second and third placings The winners were Eoin Kenny u 18 javelin ,the girls under 10 relay team,Sarah Abullo under 10 80 metres,she was also third in the turbo javelin and long jump,second placings went to Eoghan Flynn senior javelin, Chloe Creed u 13 long jump,Cormac Farrell u16 shot putt,Hassan Ali under 18 javelin and Andrew Scanlon u 11 long jump and third placing to Tara Myers u 16 javelin,David Scanlon u 13 high jump and boys under 12 relay team. In Cork the Leevale Open Sports were on Sunday also and Tommie Fennell West Waterford was third in the 600 metres u 13, Alex O;Keeffe Finsk Valley was second in the under 9 turbo javelin and from the same club Corey Scanlon was second in the under 11 long jump while Zoe Kiely Ferrybank was third in the under 16 800 metres.

This Tuesday April 26 th the Annual Waterford and District Primary Schools Sports promoted by Ferrybank AC takes place at the RSC at 11 am . Sprint and middle distance races for each class from 1 st to 6 th class as well as Relays. The second Annual Ferrybank GAA Angela Burns Memorial10 k Fun Run/Walk will take place on Sunday April 24th at 11 am starting at Ferrybank GAA Grounds. There will be a 2k race for the Under 12's,starting before the main 10k Entries from 10 am on the day.
