On Saturday last hundreds of athletes from Universities ,Institutes of Technology and Secondary Schools all over Ireland competed in their GloHealth All Ireland Cross Country Championships on Sligo Racecourse. Making a welcome return to competitive racing after some time David McCarthy West Waterford AC running for DCU put up a terrific performance to easily take the Inter Varsity title and lead DCU to the team title also.Biding his time for some way he took over with a lap to go and was never troubled after.In the schools championships the best performance from an athlete from a Waterford school came from Michael Troy St Augustine's who finished second in the junior race,Lucy Holmes Árd Scoil na n Déise also ran a fine race to finish 5th overall in the junior grade also and she led Árd Scoil to to silver team medals, the only school in Munster to get among the team medals. Other high placings in huge fields were the 15 th placings by Una O'Brien Waterpark minor and Miceál Power St Augustine's senior
Munster Schools Indoors
A number of athletes from Waterford schools were medal winners at the Munster Schools Indoor Games in Nenagh on Tuesday March 1 st, Luke Brennan St Declan's Kilmacthomas was joint first in the 60 metres,Shane Monagle Árd Scoil na Mara Tramore won the hurdles and Árd Scoil na Mara won the boys relay all at intermediate level, second placings went to James Murphy Árd Scoil long jump intermediate, Senan Travers St Augustine's 1200 m junior,Katie Murphy Abbey CC junior long jump,Una O'Brien Waterpark minor 1200 m, third placings were secured by Thomas Sheridan Abbey CC high jump,intermediate;Emily O'Mahony St Augustine's junior long jump, Cathal Scanlon St Declan's junior hurdles
Joe wins again
Competing in the Leinster Masters Indoor Championships in the over 50 category 800 metres in Athlone on Sunday last Joe Gough West Waterford AC put up yet another top class performance to win in a very fast time of 2 minutes 15.33 seconds. Joe is currently preparing to compete in his first ever US race in Portland Oregan during the upcoming World Indoor Athletic Championships from March 17 th to 20 th.. He has been one of nine athletes from around the world invited to compete in an 800 metres race over 60 which will showcase and promote Masters Athletics.
Ballycotton 10 miles
2250 competed in the Annual Ballycotton 10 miles road race on Sunday last including many from Waterford. Mark Hanrahan Leevale won in a time of 49 minutes 1 second, Aime Cooke Youghal was first lady home in 59.57 First Waterford athlete home was Trevor Power in 11 th place in 53.37 and Frank Quinlan was 15 th in 54.11 he took the over 40 award both compete with Waterford AC.

This coming week end the All Ireland Juvenile Indoor Championships are in Athlone on Saturday and Sunday next and many athletes from Waterford clubs will be competing.The programme begins at 10 am both days and full timetable is on Athletics Ireland website
Munster road Championship
Munster Senior, Master & Novice 4 Mile Road Championships, Sunday 3rd April 2016 in County Clare. Coming up on Sunday April 24 th is the Annual Ferrybank GAA 10 km Run and Walk starting at 11 am. and a 2km under 12 run is on before the 10KM
