Over 400 competed in the 10 th Annual Anne Valley 5 miles run in the Dunhill area last Saturday in very cold and wet conditions. After a minutes silence was observed for the late Piery Cummins Dunhill AC athlete of the past who died recently the race was started by the well known Jim Harney from Dunhill. Kevin Maunsell Clonmel AC was the overall winner leading the field from the start and he was timed at 26 minutes and 1 second,Brian Murphy Carrick on Suir was second in 26.33 and Frank Quinlan Waterford was third in 26.41 these two had been locked together for the majority of the race..First lady home was Donna Dowling Kilkenny City Hrs in 32.29 , Sinéad Murphy was second in 33.44 and Naomi Doonan Ardnahoe Trotters was third in 33.49. The Category winners were as follows.Women; junior Órla Queally Ferrybank ,F35 Judy O'Gorman Ind ,F40 Camille Mulhearne Kilmacthomas, F45 Claudia Lane Mary Waterford , F50 Jacinta Brazil do ,F55 Kathleen Kennedy do ,F60 Mary Francis Ind. Men junior Jamie Mc Carthy Waterford, M40 Séamus Doyle Balance Fitness M45 Pascal Halley Waterford, M50 Ray Hahessy West Waterford, M55 Walter Keane Waterford, M60 Jim O'Connor Skibereen Lawn ,M65 Dermot Mowett Ind A walk and juvenile run also took place with all proceeds going to Jack and Jill Foundation and many stewards helped make the race a very well organised affair, unfortunately no result from juvenile race .
On Sunday last a small number of athletes from Ferrybank and West Waterford competed in Athlone in the AAI Indoor Games Best performances came from Niamh Whelan Ferrybank back in action. She won the B 60 metres in 7.62 seconds and was second in the A 200 metres in 24.55, James Ledingham was the best placed Waterford runner in the 1500 metres when he was 5 th in 3.53.9. Andrew Connick Ferrybank was 11 th and Sean Curran West Waterford 13 th, in the B 1500 metres Brian Gallagher Ferrybank was 7 th. Thomas Houlihan West Waterford was unplaced in the pole vault failing to clear his first height of 4.20 metres..
Munster title won
In Enniskeane in County Cork on Sunday last the Munster Juvenile Inter County Cross Country Relay championships took place in miserable weather and Waterford did very well. The boys under 14 team had a great win the squad being Padraig Fitzgerald, Seamus Fitzgerald (both KCK), Cormac O' Mahony (West Waterford) and Callum Hurley (Ferrybank). the boys under 10 were second the squad being Nathan Mackey (Waterford), Darragh Regan (West Waterford) Cian Moore and Corey Scanlon (both Finisk Valley) while the boys under 10 missed out narrowly being 4 th Well done to all the squads and to those that prepared them
Munster Schools Cross Country in Cork
On Thursday next February 11 th the Glo Health Munster Secondary Schools Cross Country Championships are in Tramore Valley Park in Cork city at 12 noon ,Athletes, boys and girls will compete in four grades minor,junior,intermediate and senior and many from Waterford schools will be competing for individual and team honours with quite a few expected to figure, please note the venue
All Ireland University Championships
Athlone is the venue for the All Ireland University Indoor championships on Friday next February12 th and a number of Waterford athletes representing various Universities and IT Colleges will be competing,the first event is at 10.15 am
Munster Juvenile in Nenagh.
On Saturday and Sunday next with a 10.30 am start the Munster under 9 to 12 Indoor Championships will be in Nenagh with lots of athletes from Waterford clubs participating.
Week end Road Races
Two road race fixtures are in the area this week end. On Saturday at 11 am there will be the Annual Half Marathon and 10 Km in Mt Juliet,Thomastown and entries for these two races are closed and no entries will be taken on the day,proceeds going to Jack and Jill Foundation.On Sunday again with an 11 am start the 14 th Annual Bausch and Lamb 5 miles is in Kilmacthomas and entries will be taken in The Community Hall from 10 am,its race 4 of the Michael Roche Carpets Series, On Sunday week 21 st the 34 th Annual Dungarvan Colleges 10 km,is at 11 am

Joe for World Indoors
Joe Gough has been invited to compete at the World Indoor Championships in Portland Oregan USA. He will run in an 800 metres over 60 which is an exhibition race promoting Masters Athletics. It will be Joe's first appearance on a US racetrack and its next month

West Waterford AC have their Ger Wyley Summer Series dates set for coming year as follows Ballinroad 8th April, Butlerstown 15th April ,Waterford to Tramore 30th April 7 all at 7 pm, Ardmore 20th May, Touraneena, 27th May, Clashmore 10th June , Dromana 17th June, Ras Na Rinne Ring 1st July all at 8 pm Ballymacarbry 22nd July, Marine Climb August 5th , GSK Dungarvan 19th August all at 7.30pm. Two races listed for Tramore are The Tramore 4 on Friday March 25 th at 6 pm and the Splashworld 10 km is on Sunday April 10 th at 11 am. All other groups organising races should have them up in the public domain good and early and should avoid fixing races too near to one another in this area and surrounding areas
