165 competed in the 7th Annual Cleanzone Technologies Paddy Joe Curran Memorial Turkey Trot out near The Marine Bar, Dungarvan to Youghal road on Sunday last and Philip Harty won in 25 minutes and 52 seconds,Ravis Zakis was second in 26.55 both West Waterford and Frank Quinlan Waterford was third in 27.03 .Kate Veale easily won the ladies section in 32.51,Sandra Prendergast was second in 34.48 both West Waterford and Tara Rhatigan Sportsworld was third in 35.08.
Anne Fifth in Glasgow
Anne Corcoran Ursuline Convent representing Irish Schools competed in the Schools International Indoor Combined Events Championships in Glasgow on Saturday last and finished 5 th overall in the Intermediate Grade with a total of in 3422 point out of her five events. She had a personal best in the long jump of 5.27 metres,her other marks were hurdles 9.61,shot putt 11.30 metres, high jump 1.60 metres and 2.32 in the 800 metres,The event was won by Grace Bower England on 3693 points
Mc Cormack leads Ireland to bronze European medals. .
A fighting fourth place finish from Fionnuala Britton McCormack led the Irish senior women’s team to magnificent bronze medals at the European Cross Country Championships in Hyeres, France. on Sunday last. McCormack's remarkable individual record at the European Cross Country Championships continued making it three fourth place finishes, two firsts and a sixth in the race,The Irish women’s team have started to become a formidable force at the Europeans having won team gold in 2012 and bronze in Samokov last year. McCormack was backed up by scoring members Lizzie Lee (Leevale) in 13th well known in the Waterford area, Caroline Crowley (Crusaders) in 23rd in her first International and just three years running and Ciara Durkan (Skerries) in 43rd for a total of 83 points – just five points behind the French. So as so often in the past Irish athletes have come home from a major championship with medals for Ireland..
This Thursday the Winter League in the city is in aid of the WLRFM/Lions Club Appeal. It Starts at 7 pm from the RSC and then there's a break until after Xmas.
St Stephen's Day Dungarvan Rrun.
The annual charity fun run on St. Stephen’s Day organised by West Waterford AC will be held once again this year in association with Dungarvan G.A.A. It’s a Fun Run comprising a five mile route and everyone is free to run or walk at whatever pace they feel like.The event gets under way at 11 am. All money donated on the day will go to a local charity there is no set fee as in other races, it’s at each person’s discretion but we ask that runners and walkers give generously. The entries will be taken at the Dungarvan G.A.A. club where soup and sandwiches will be provided after the run. On the same day there are 4 miles road races in Belgooly Co Cork and Clonmel both start at 12 noon
Baldy Man Run 2015
The Baldy Man Run 2015 will take place on Sunday 27th December in Tramore . Registration is from 9.30am in the Majestic Hotel for an 11am start. The run is now in its 15th year raising money for good causes. This year the Tramore Voluntary Housing Association’s Sheltered Housing for the Elderly project at Ballycarnane, Tramore, is to be the recipient. The elderly residents of the Tramore Area will be the beneficiaries when the 18 units of sheltered housing are built in 2016 and 2017.
